Minding their own business

North Coast TAFE's Macksville Campus will be the location of a new business networking event for local entrepreneurs and stakeholders.

North Coast TAFE's Macksville Campus will be the location of a new business networking event for local entrepreneurs and stakeholders.

Links2Success: Better Business Skills is targeting people who are interested in starting their own business. The event is slated for Thursday 1 September and is being jointly supported by Nambucca Shire Council, the local Chambers of Commerce and local businesspeople and industry experts.

"The aim is to bring together those who are just starting out or already working in business or enterprise, with experts to support the development of businesses in the Valley," Jill Ashley, Head Teacher of Business and Employment, Education and Support at Macksville TAFE told the Mid-Coast Observer. "The format of the event is informal, with short presentations by the industry experts and a long lunch designed to allow plenty of time for attendees to interact personally with presenters and other attendees so they can ask questions and get feedback about their own business needs."

The lunch will be prepared and presented by some of the Campus' successful Certificate II Business students who have set up their own enterprise business.

Ms Ashley said locally there was a real demand for people to understand the ins and outs of running their own small business and as a vocational training provider, it was TAFE's responsibility to meet those community needs and expectations.

"Developing these skills also provides people with new opportunities for entrepreneurial and enterprise activities which benefit the economic and social development of the region," she said.
