NSW Skills Minister John Barilaro's 'One TAFE' vision was given the nod of approval from TAFE Western students, staff and stakeholders at a meeting in Dubbo.

The Minister announced plans to replace independent Institutes with a single multi-campus structure. The focus was on reducing overheads and channeling savings to training and skills needs.

"I'm confident if you're at the centre of all this – the people of this organisation – we've got a better chance  of getting it right," said Mr Barilaro.

Everyone welcomed the idea of the use of a digital platform based at a regional centre.

Kate Baxter, Director of TAFE Western told the Dubbo Weekender that TAFE Western was equipped as a leader in the field of using technology in skills and industry based education.

The Minister assured the audience that the increased reliance on technology would not replace face-to-face teaching an important part of teacher student interaction.

"We certainly know across Western NSW even for people in remote locations they do benefit from having face to face contact with a teacher and our mobile units facilitate that," said Kate Baxter.

Staff and students can hardly wait for digital improvements which will allow them to reach students in remote locations.
