Become a qualified beauty therapist and strengthen a suite of practical skills in a TAFE NSW beauty salon. Learn how to care for your clients from booking through to follow-up consultations, building a level of trust along the way that will have them returning to your salon time after time.
Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:
Apply spray tan
Provide body massage and treatment services
Provide facials and skincare recommendations
Design and apply make-up, and lash and brow treatments
Provide waxing services
Provide manicure and pedicure services using electric file equipment
Gain practical experience and develop specialist skills that give you an advantage in the job market.
Develop practical skills in beauty therapy techniques, client aftercare and follow-up consultations with real world clients in the simulated working environment of a TAFE NSW beauty salon

This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol
Be employed as an apprentice in the industry
Register with an Apprenticeship Connect Australia Provider (ACAP) who will support your application
During your study you’ll need to provide your teacher with the following evidence:
The capacity to practice skills on your peers and members of the public and allow peers to practice on you
Availability to attend an interview with a teacher to determine your suitability
To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:
A commitment to following strict hygiene and work, health and safety principles
Confidence with massage including head, feet, hands and body
Enthusiasm for communicating effectively with your clients and your team

At TAFE NSW, we recognise your previous study and work experience. You can apply for recognition of prior learning or a credit transfer with any of our courses. If you're successful you'll get your qualification faster.
Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 23 units of competency, including 18 core and 5 speciality units.
Please note, not all specialty units are offered at every TAFE NSW location. It is highly recommended that you check with your preferred campus for information about the specialty units offered at that location.
