    Begin your hospitality journey with confidence with this short course. Sell, serve or supply alcohol responsibly and provide responsible gambling services. Use effective hygiene practices to prevent food contamination and food-related illnesses.

    Learning outcomes

    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • View acceptable proof of age before sale or service of alcohol

    • Provide accurate information to customers about alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks

    • Monitor customer behaviours for signs of intoxication and take appropriate action, including refusing sale or service

    • Manage conflict effectively, including identifying threats to safety and getting assistance with handling threats

    • Follow responsible gambling service procedures, including refusing credit and responding to under-age gambling

    • Provide information and assistance to customers about how to minimise gambling harm and get counselling services or other help

    • Identify and remove food hazards and report unsafe hygiene practices and food contamination incidents

    Completion requirements

    During your study you’ll need to provide your teacher with the following evidence:

    • If you would like to get the Liquor and Gaming NSW Competency Card from Service NSW, there is an additional cost. You'll make this payment for the card to TAFE NSW, then you'll have to visit Service NSW to obtain your card.

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • While you don't need to be aged 18 or older to complete this course, it's recommended that you're not younger than 16 years old. You must be at least 18 years of age to work in licensed areas.
