Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:
Analyse information and examine cyber security data
Manage information and communications technology (ICT) networks, protocols and security infrastructure
Work within cyber security based work, health and safety (WHS), legislation, intellectual property, privacy and ethical practices
Conduct cyber security penetration testing and vulnerability exercises
Collaborate in a team environment

Experience in both sides of a security breach
Exposure to simulated ICT system environments and cyber security scenarios to prepare you for your future endeavours
The ability to use full operating systems, software-based IPS/IDS systems, software-based firewalls and SIEM software
A pathway to further study in Information Technology
This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol
A certificate III or higher in information technology and proficiency in networking, including operating systems and command line (Linux & Windows), networking protocols and/or configuration of routers and switches (including routing protocols, command line configuration and IP addressing), OR
Industry experience equivalent to a certificate III or higher in information technology and proficiency in networking, including operating systems and command line (Linux & Windows), networking protocols and/or configuration of routers and switches (including routing protocols, command line configuration and IP addressing)

To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:
A reliable broadband internet connection and a PC with a multi-core CPU capable of virtualisation
Adult colleagues, friends or family members willing to participate in assessment role plays
Strong IT skills, digital literacy and a thorough understanding of cyber security. There are various self-enrol courses available at Cisco Networking Academy where you can check and/or improve your skills such as NDG: Linux Essentials, Cisco Networking Basics or Cisco Introduction to Cybersecurity
Language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) at a Year 10 level

Our graduates go onto roles like: cyber security assistant, cyber security technician, assistant computer help desk technician, assistant cyber security intrusion tester, assistant cyber security support officer, assistant security penetration tester and assistant systems tester.
This course content is considered high risk; the teaching of it operates within a wider framework of the law and TAFE NSW policies. There are inherent laws relating to cyber security including the Cybercrime Act 2001and the Spam Act 2003 (Cth), with the Cybercrime Act (Cth) criminalising computer and internet related activities such as hacking, spreading viruses and website vandalism.

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate IV in Cyber Security qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 16 units of competency, including 8 core and 8 speciality units.
Please note, not all specialty units are offered at every TAFE NSW location. It is highly recommended that you check with your preferred campus for information about the specialty units offered at that location.
