Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:
Examine drawings, work orders and sample parts and materials to determine project specifications
Mark out, cut, shape and fit upholstery products
Use upholstery hand and power tools, including a sewing machine
Dismantle and reassemble furniture for upholstering
Create fittings for boats, caravans and other items where fine detail is required
Work safely and communicate with others in a team environment

To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:
Strong spatial awareness and hand-eye coordination
Prior experience in handling tools and equipment
Personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, ear and eye protection and a chemical mask
Optional payment of $850 for materials, applicable only to students wanting to take their completed project home
Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) at a Year 10 high school level

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Upholstery qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 25 units of competency, including 12 core and 13 speciality units.
