Bakery World Cup in our sights

A Hunter TAFE trained baker is one of five chosen to compete in a segment of The Bakery World Cup in Paris.

John Reminis, 22, will represent the Asia Pacific region when he vies for the title of World Young Bakery Hopeful on February 5 against peers from Europe, the Americas, Africa and the Mediterranean.

The participants have been given the theme of Children's Garden Party and will be judged on their ability to make 100 bread products in less than one hour.

"I have been working hard to develop a unique interpretation of some classic party dishes," he said.

Mr Reminis started his apprenticeship when he was 16 and counts Hunter TAFE teachers Dean Tilden and Dean Gibson as mentors.

He competed at the WorldSkills International Competition last August.
