TAFE NSW has launched a new course in laser hair removal in response to an increase in demand for laser cosmetic treatments.
The nationally accredited Advanced Diploma of Intense Pulse Light (IPL) and Laser for Hair Reduction qualification is being offered at TAFE NSW Liverpool where students can learn specialised knowledge and skills to safely apply intense pulsed light and laser technologies to reduce unwanted hair on the face and body.
TAFE NSW Team Leader of Hair and Beauty, Gina Benson, said TAFE NSW Liverpool is the first campus across the state to offer the newly accredited course.
“The Advanced Diploma of Intense Pulse Light (IPL) and Laser for Hair Reduction will give students the advanced skills needed to become a qualified laser hair technician and accelerate their career in beauty salons, laser clinics and cosmetic practices.
“This course is an opportunity for TAFE NSW to meet the demand for skilled beauty professionals in the area of laser hair removal and IPL, as it has become increasingly popular as an effective and efficient hair removal solution.
“The course will be delivered part time and flexibly, with an option for students who currently work in the industry to obtain the nationally recognised qualification through recognition of skills and training completed in their current workplace,” Ms Benson said.
Dijana Miletic, leading Laser Technician in the Penrith and Fairfield area, said that the new TAFE NSW course had come at the right time.
“There is a need and demand for this qualification in the industry because there are a lot of laser and IPL operators who do not have any formal training and are getting trained by other employees of the salon.
“This is unregulated and can potentially be unsafe for both the client and operator, so the TAFE NSW course has come at the right time,” Ms Miletic said.
The use of intense pulsed light and laser is subject to legislation, regulation and licensing in some Australian states and territories.
