Brett Graham Scholarship
This prestigious culinary scholarship was established in 2003 as a partnership between TAFE NSW and the Hunter Culinary Association and is named after one of our most successful alumni, Brett Graham.
Valued at $10,000, the Brett Graham Scholarship includes a return flight to London and travel assistance for the recipient. The Scholarship also includes the opportunity to work with Brett himself at his Notting Hill Restaurant, as well as enrolment into the Certificate IV in Kitchen Management (SIT40521) at TAFE NSW.
Closing date: 5 pm (AEST) Thursday, 5 September 2024
Applicants must provide an 800 word entry for their application, outlining how they meet the following selection criteria:
- Describe how you have demonstrated high achievement within your industry role.
- Describe your passion and desire for an overseas learning experience.
- Describe how, as an ambassador for TAFE NSW, Hunter TAFE Foundation and the Hunter Culinary Association, you would contribute to activities held by both organisations and act as a role model for apprentices.
- Provide an outline of a plan for your culinary education experience, should you be awarded the scholarship.
If the applicant’s entry successfully meets the above entry requirements, they may be selected to participate in the masterclass and preliminary cook-off competition.
Applicants must be:
- A second or third year cookery apprentice, currently enrolled at TAFE NSW Hamilton, Kurri Kurri or Ourimbah, or
- An apprentice who has completed their training and final assessment with TAFE NSW Hamilton, Kurri Kurri or Ourimbah within the past twelve months
- Applicants must also be a member of the Hunter Culinary Association (free to register – hunterculinary.com.au)
- Closing date for applications is Thursday 5 September 2024
- Successful applicants will be informed by Thursday 12 September 2024
- The masterclass will be held on Tuesday 24 September 2024
- The preliminary cook-off competition will be held on Tuesday 22 October 2024
- The finalist cook-off competition will be held on Tuesday 29 October 2024

About Brett Graham
After completing his apprenticeship with TAFE NSW, Brett Graham moved to Sydney to work with Liam Tomlin at the highly acclaimed Banc Restaurant. During this time he was awarded the Josephine Pignolet Young Chef of the Year Award, which resulted in his move to the UK.
He is currently co-owner and Chef patron of Michelin-starred restaurant The Ledbury, which was voted as the 14th best restaurant in The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2016.
Highly passionate about his craft and proud to be alumni, Brett has been providing Hunter chefs the opportunity to work with him at The Ledbury through his scholarship.
