    This course is your backstage pass to the world of live entertainment. Launch your career as a stage technician and learn the skills you need to work behind the scenes at concerts, clubs, theatres and conventions, to bring production to life.

    Learning outcomes

    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • Set up microphones

    • Operate front of house and monitoring mixing consoles

    • Operate lighting consoles and a variety of lights

    • Set up and pack down stage equipment and backline

    • Bump in and bump out

    • Work with projectors, screens and vision switchers

    Gain practical experience and develop specialist skills that give you an advantage in the job market.

    Entry recommendations

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • Attended a range of live performances (if possible)

    • Familiarity with live sound, staging, lighting, vision systems and/or event management

    • The ability to lift portable sound and lighting equipment

    • The ability to work in a team, as collaboration is essential

    • An interest in work that is a combination of creative and technical tasks

    • A patient attitude and the ability to alternate between intense periods of work and lengthy periods of waiting

    • The ability to occasionally attend rehearsals, functions, and live performances outside of class hours if needed, potentially on evenings and/or weekends

    • Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) at a Year 10 high school level

    • TAFE NSW may ask you to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills test.

    • This skills test helps us to understand your individual study needs, to design an individualised plan that supports your study success and ensures your LLN skills match the demands of the course.

    Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Live Production and Technical Services qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 units of competency, including 4 core and 11 speciality units.
