Keeping it real: 4 tips for online study

Online study has made a big difference for a lot of people. However, online study also has some pretty big challenges.

Keeping it real: 4 tips for online study

TAFE Digital is the largest provider of online education in Australia. And, as part of TAFE NSW, it's an education you can trust. So with that peace of mind, here are some tips to loom at.

1. Plan it out

Yes, it’s time to make a plan. Take it from famous people – even if you’ve never heard of them:

  • “If you don’t know where you are going, you’ll end up someplace else.” ― Yogi Berra, former New York Yankees catcher

  • “It takes as much energy to wish as it does to plan.” ― Eleanor Roosevelt, former 'first lady' of the United States

With a plan, you can see where you are going, you can change your direction, and you can see your progress.

So if your plan says, ‘On Tuesdays, relax,’ then relaxing means you’ve achieved your goal! Achieving things makes people happy.

Look at what you need to get done and use a calendar or study planner to allocate time for study. Set milestones and reward yourself as you reach them.

2. Take advantage of support

Tell your family, friends and employer about your study plans – the more people that know you’re studying, the more support you’ll have along the way. People want you to do well – never forget that!

Don’t be shy about connecting with other students through online study groups – it can be really motivating to speak to fellow students and work through challenges together.

TAFE Digital also has a wide range of support services available, including career counselling and study advice and support for Aboriginal students, so reach out if you need a little extra support to stay motivated.

Remember too there are lots of different types of scholarships, so check them out.

3. Healthy habits

It’s important to take care of your health and happiness to study at your best. Taking regular breaks, eating well and getting enough sleep will benefit you in the long run. Make time for yourself – study shouldn’t completely take over your life, so make time for some fun along the way.

Achieving your online study goals is going to be a healthy habit in itself, so make sure you get as many online study tips as you can.

4. Remember your goals

Take a moment to remember why you’re studying – is it to upskill for the next step in your career, to prepare for a career change, or to learn a new skill. When times get tough it can be very helpful to reflect on why you began your course and what you’ve accomplished so far.

Learning is a good thing, and you’re making it happen. Good on you!
