We are lucky to be surrounded by an amazing bunch of humans here at TAFE NSW. And, taking a closer look at our female population we see they’ve got one thing in common; they’re all incredible!

Here are four fearless females that are making waves across the state.

1. Belinda Maudson – Prop master to the stars

Belinda Maudson’s has created props for a range of iconic productions on stage and screen including ‘Star Wars’, ‘Godzilla’, ‘House of Wax’, ‘Erskineville Kings’, ‘Angst’, ‘Dr Zhivago’, ‘Rocky Horror Show’ and ‘Priscilla,’ as well as the 2000 Sydney Olympic games.

Since becoming a teacher at TAFE NSW, Belinda and her students have created pieces for VIVID Sydney, the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and countless live events. On top of all that, she was awarded the TVET Teacher of the Year award at the 2018 State Training Awards.

2. Lizzie Von Gavel – Aboriginal arts advocate

Lizzie Von Gavel’s passion for Australian art took her beyond the classroom, to the planning, development and coordination of the Mehi Art Studio and Gallery at TAFE NSW Moree.

Lizzie provides Aboriginal students with the opportunity to showcase their art, as well as teaching them important business and life skills. In recognition for her dedication and effort, Lizzie was named Non-Aboriginal Teacher of the Year at the 2018 TAFE NSW Gili Awards.

3. Lyn Wilson – Adult educator par excellence

The 2015 Teacher of the Year WINNER, Lyn Wilson, has been leading the charge developing strong foundations in basic Language, Literacy and Numeracy in adults for over 20 years.

Lyn’s model of good practice and designs of Indigenous pre-employment and other training programs have been key to the significant number of employment outcomes achieved for Aboriginal people in Sydney.

After winning the prestigious award, Lyn took her passionate career to new heights, leading teams of literacy teachers and head teachers across the Sydney region in a bid to develop pathways for other disadvantaged students.

4. Jacquie Tang – IT Guru

Award-winning IT guru, Jacquie Tang started her career as a Business and Information Systems teacher in Vancouver, Canada, before moving to Sydney to study Information Technology at TAFE NSW.

After winning the TAFE NSW State Medal for IT, Jacquie was employed at a number of high profile educational institutions and organisations, before eventually finding her true calling as a full-time TAFE NSW teacher. 

Jacquie is particularly passionate about seeing her International Students grow and excel, not only in IT, but as people living in a totally new country. Jacquie understands the concerns and challenges of an international student, because at one stage - she was one.
