TAFE NSW graduate named interior decoration graduate of the year

TAFE NSW graduate Lauren Coleman has been awarded Interior Decoration Graduate of the Year at the Design Institute of Australia’s Graduate of the Year Awards (GOTYA).

Lauren couldn't praise TAFE NSW and her teachers highly enough for providing a fantastic foundation of skills and igniting her passion for interior design.

“I am thrilled to receive this prestigious design award and am indebted to my teachers at TAFE NSW Design Centre Enmore for giving me the skills and training to forge my way in such an exciting industry,” Lauren said.

“It’s a pleasure and a privilege to be counted amongst the incredible designers who have received this award before me, and I can’t wait to see where my career will take me.”

Lauren completed Diploma of Interior Design 2021 and is now continuing her studies at UNSW in the Bachelor of Interior Architecture (Honors) and working part time for an architect in Leura.

Lauren’s taking the steps towards a career in demand. According to the Australian Government’s Job Outlook, employment in interior design grew very strongly over the past 5 years and is expected to grow another 16.3% by 2025.

Head Teacher of Interior Design at TAFE NSW Design Centre Enmore, Tanya Dobble, said the Diploma Lauren studied develops practical design skills combined with theory to give students a sound understanding of design best practice both in Australia and internationally.

“TAFE NSW Design Centre Enmore provides a range of purpose-built design studios where students are able to immerse themselves in design,” Tanya said.

“Many of our graduates have gone on to enjoy incredibly successful careers in the industry and it’s great to see Lauren being rewarded for her hard work and dedication to Interior Decoration and Design.”

The GOTYA program is a unique awards program created to support and celebrate exceptional designers from around Australia in the early stages of their careers. Approximately 30 graduates in each category are nominated by education and training providers from around Australia, from which just four graduates are selected as finalists per category.

TAFE NSW also had two finalists in the design awards, Helena Holst for Fashion and Ohm Kermann for Interior Design.
