TAFE NSW supplies graphic design industry with in-demand graduates

As demand for graduate graphic designers in Australia skyrockets, TAFE NSW is supplying the industry with job-ready designers who are quickly gaining jobs whilst completing their studies.

A LinkedIn report recently found that the number of job listings for graduate graphic designers grew faster than any other entry-level listing in 2021[1].

Student Nazanin Dashtban completed the Diploma of Graphic Design at TAFE NSW Hornsby in 2021 and has already landed a full time job as a Junior Graphic Designer for local company W9 Medical and Dental.

“I already had a degree in art but was interested in graphic design work and so gave the Certificate IV in Design at TAFE NSW a try in 2020 to gain some additional skills to accelerate my career,” Ms Dashtban said.

“I had received positive feedback about my work so decided to continue my studies with the Diploma of Graphic Design in 2021. The one year duration and low fees appealed to me and I knew I would learn all the practical skills I needed to land a job when I finished the course.”

General Manager of Caredent, W9 Medical and Dental Group, Noah Shroot, said they had interviewed a number of candidates from TAFE NSW for the role and had been impressed with the high quality and breadth of skills demonstrated by the graduates.

“We have been very impressed with the calibre of students from TAFE NSW Hornsby – both in terms of creativity, software skills, professionalism and work ethic,” Mr Shroot said.

“Their portfolios were all of a very high standard and though it was a hard decision for us we are so excited that Nazanin will be joining our marketing team.”

TAFE NSW Graphic Design Head Teacher Glenn Jeffries said the Diploma of Graphic Design opens up rewarding career pathways in creative fields.

“Students learn valuable digital illustration techniques, hand drawing and illustration, 3D design and construction, and how to work through the design process from initial design to final product,” Mr Jeffries said.

“With graphic design one of the fastest growing industries in Australia, now is a great time to get started in the industry and gain in-demand skills at TAFE NSW.”
