As demand for graduate graphic designers in Australia skyrockets, TAFE NSW is supplying the industry with job-ready designers who are quickly gaining jobs whilst completing their studies.

A LinkedIn report recently found that the number of job listings for graduate graphic designers grew faster than any other entry-level listing in the first quarter of 2021[1].

Student Adele Kral completed the Diploma of Graphic Design at TAFE NSW Hornsby in 2021 and has already landed a job as an Entry Level Graphic Designer at DMC Digital.

“I had always wanted to study design but I had no idea if I would be good at it so at first the goal wasn't a career change but rather to fulfil a dream I had as a teenager,” Adele said.

“Starting a Certificate IV that spanned one semester in 2020 seemed like a great way to gain the practical skills I needed without committing to an expensive and long degree.”

Adele’s initial plan to travel to Canada after completing her Certificate IV was interrupted by COVID-19, so after receiving positive feedback from her teachers she decided to continue her studies with the Diploma of Graphic Design in 2021.   

“My experience at TAFE NSW was great. I could tell the teachers were pushing me to do my best and would provide a lot of good constructive feedback. There were so many helpful hints and tricks that made navigating the Adobe Suite so much easier.”

TAFE NSW Head Teacher of Graphic Design Glenn Jeffries said the Diploma of Graphic Design opens up rewarding career pathways in creative fields.

“Students learn valuable digital illustration techniques, hand drawing and illustration, 3D design and construction, and how to work through the design process from initial design to final product,” Mr Jeffries said.
