Tamworth local Katelyn Isaac is encouraging the community to consider a career in the early childhood education industry as the demand for skilled workers continues to grow. 

Katelyn studied a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care at TAFE NSW Tamworth while studying at high school. Upon completion of high school, she was recommended for a full-time role at Quirindi Preschool by her TAFE NSW teacher. Now, she’s furthering her skills by studying a Bachelor of Teaching (K-6) at University in Armidale while working at a local daycare centre. 

“I really felt that there was a need for more young educators teaching children and that’s why I pursued a career in early childhood education,” Ms Isaac said. 

“I find it so rewarding to be working with children; it’s important to make sure they are meeting their developmental milestones and improving their language skills from a young age. 

“TAFE NSW has helped me learn the practical skills needed to work in an industry that I am so passionate about, and I really want to be a positive role model for others.”  

Quirindi Preschool Director Kylie Turner said Katelyn was a valued member of the team and her passion for the early childhood service was refreshing. 

“Katelyn has such a warm nature and connection to children, she’s persistent, reliable and can work well under pressure,” Mrs Turner said. 

“We were so lucky that TAFE NSW recommended Katelyn to us when we were looking for employees. Katelyn was able to apply the practical skills she was learning at TAFE NSW in all areas in the workplace, I have no doubts Katelyn has a bright future ahead of her working with children.” 

According to the Australian Government Jobs Outlook, an extra 10,600 early childhood educators are needed nationwide to fill jobs from now until 2026 and ID profile data also suggests childcare workers will emerge as the fastest-growing profession in North Western NSW by 2024. 

Mrs Turner believes now is the perfect time to consider an exciting career in this booming industry.
