TAFE NSW's Goulburn Campus is offering a free mentoring program to help people get their learner driver's permit. And so far it has a 100% success rate.
"This program is to assist anyone who may need some help in getting through the NSW Roads and Maritime Services' learner driver's knowledge test," teacher Niki Shepherd told the Goulburn Post. "The program has been assisting people with low-level literacy and numeracy skills and new migrants. But it is for anyone who may need some help, (such as) older people who have never got their licence before and are a bit daunted by it."
Ms Shepherd believes that the driver rule book, which is issued by Roads and Maritime Services, can be overwhelming for some new learners as it contains a lot of information. The driver education program offered by Goulburn TAFE breaks down that information to the basic and most important elements, which are then applied to the online practice tests.
"The local magistrate has highly recommended the program in the community due to its success," Ms Shepherd said. "Undertaking the driver education program has also helped improve people's reading, writing and computer literacy skills."The program's next intake is scheduled for Wednesday 19 October, running for four weeks on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9.30am to 12.30pm till 10 November. Numbers are limited so anyone interested is advised to book a place as soon as possible. Phone Goulburn TAFE Campus on 1300 766 123.
