Twelve students from Hunter TAFE's Advanced Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Technology course are having garments they designed manufactured in Bali and then displayed for sale in a prominent Newcastle boutique.
The students recently traveled to Bali to see first-hand where their designs are being manufactured and to learn about the various steps of the process, including outsourcing, working conditions and costings.
"It's pretty surreal to think these pieces started off as sketches, but now they're a reality," one of the students, Hannah Teale, told the Newcastle Herald. "It's something I would have never been able to do if I had not been with TAFE."
The completed collection will be marketed as the fashion range Notched and will be stocked at Jean Bas on vibrant Darby Street in Newcastle's inner city. The students consider the whole experience to be "the opportunity of a lifetime".
