    The Bachelor of Information Technology (Data Engineering) provides you with the essential knowledge and technical skills for the design, implementation, and management of ‘big data’, data systems and their infrastructure to support big data solutions.

    There is a growing demand for professionals with the experience and qualifications to build information technology (IT) solutions and manage big data, which is a fast-evolving field in business and commerce.

    You will learn about IT systems, concepts and methodologies and develop a comprehensive knowledge of networking, data security and infrastructure engineering. As well as studying theory, you will develop analytical and critical evaluation skills that you will apply to practical projects and simulated workplaces.

    At TAFE NSW we have strong partnership arrangements with industry partners such as Cisco, AWS, Microsoft, and NDG.

    Learning Outcomes:
    Through a mix of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • Extract, transform and load data from a variety of data sources
    • Prepare data sets for analysis and reporting using SQL
    • Design, build and manage data pipeline architectures
    • Set up and manage big data systems like Hadoop and Spark
    • Develop algorithms using Python to transform data into useful, actionable information
    • Build storage solutions for large-scale data systems
    • Administer cloud computing platforms such as AWS and Azure

    You may gain entry to another university using your TAFE NSW qualifications. Acceptance and the amount of credit transfer may vary depending on the university and course studies. Check your credit eligibility.


    Keep learning with TAFE NSW

    Upon successful completion of the Higher Education Diploma of Information Technology:

    • Graduates will receive 1 Year credit towards the Bachelor of Information Technology (Data Engineering)
    • These credits will reduce the Bachelor of Information Technology (Data Engineering) to a 2 Year duration

    You are able to package two or more TAFE NSW courses together. This means you can plan your studies to achieve your career goals. When you apply for a TAFE NSW vocational pathway, you can apply for a Student Visa that will cover the duration of your study.
