Entry recommendations

To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

  • Emotional maturity and work/life experience to handle challenging and emotionally confronting situations and learning contexts

  • The ability to interpret complex documents and prepare written and oral reports

  • A goal to create change in the community by building your knowledge on Aboriginal history, cultural practices and protocols

  • Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) at Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) level 4

  • If you are a non-Aboriginal student, please be aware that completing this course does not allow you to become a cultural advisor and bypass cultural protocols

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Diploma of Aboriginal Studies for Professional Practice qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 14 units of competency, including 4 core and 10 speciality units.

Please note, not all specialty units are offered at every TAFE NSW location. It is highly recommended that you check with your preferred campus for information about the specialty units offered at that location.
