    As an interior designer, you will use your knowledge of how people interact with spaces to create unique and innovative designs. You will combine your skills in concept creation and project management to design spaces that are functional, beautiful, and tailored to the needs of the people who will use them.

    In the TAFE NSW Bachelor of Interior Design, you will build your creative and technical skills in modern digital design and gain confidence in bringing your design projects to life using cutting-edge tools and techniques.

    Through a mix of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • Design innovative interiors by applying creative methods, taking creative risks and reflecting on your work and ideas
    • Work collaboratively in a professional design office as an interior designer, developing and communicating your ideas effectively
    • Interpret design briefs to meet client needs and ensure your designs are creative, relevant and fit for purpose
    • Formulate ethical and environmentally responsible design approaches that improve social connection, cultural inclusion, accessibility and more
    • Use Computer Aided Design (CAD) and three-dimensional Building Information Modelling (BIM) software to visually communicate interior design plans

    Professional Experience Work Placement

    • Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace. Work placement is a valuable part of your course.
    • During your course, you'll undertake 70 hours of mandatory work placement.
    • TAFE NSW will arrange your work placement with a suitable industry employer.

    Additional costs

    Additional costs for uniforms, equipment, textbooks and materials (if applicable) range from $300 - $1,000 AUD per course.

How much credit you are eligible for varies depending on the course and university you choose. You can apply for a Student Visa that will cover the duration of your study.


    Other university pathways

    You may gain entry to another university using your TAFE NSW qualifications. Acceptance and the amount of credit transfer may vary depending on the university and course studies. Check your credit eligibility.


    Keep learning with TAFE NSW

    Graduates of the Diploma of Interior Design will receive 1 year credit towards the Bachelor of Interior Design. These credits will reduce the Bachelor of Interior Design to a 2 year duration.

    You are able to package two or more TAFE NSW courses together. This means you can plan your studies to achieve your career goals. When you apply for a TAFE NSW vocational pathway, you can apply for a Student Visa that will cover the duration of your study.
