    OverviewAbout this course

    Experience a deep sense of purpose as you support elderly people to maintain dignity and independence in an aged care setting. In the Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing), you'll gain the necessary skills to build a rewarding career working as an aged care worker in an industry that needs more qualified professionals.
    You will provide physical, social and emotional support to clients to help them stay independent for as long as possible. You'll help clients with their personal care needs and build relationships with carers and families. By helping clients with several aspects of their lives, you will gain a great sense of satisfaction and reward.
    In this course, you'll have the opportunity to undertake work placement that will broaden your skills and knowledge. You will establish your professional network by building relationships with employers, colleagues and other students.

    Through a mix of theory and practical coursework, learn to: 

    • Help clients with personal care needs including bathing, toileting and dressing
    • Identify healthy body systems
    • Work in palliative care and dementia care

    Build your experience and get practical skills in: 

    • Dressing, toileting and showering clients
    • Transferring clients from one place to another using slide sheets, hoists, slings and lifters

    • Applying basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control

    Additional costs

    Additional costs for uniforms, equipment, textbooks and materials (if applicable) range from $300 - $1,000 AUD per course.

    Structure and unitsWhat you will study

    At the start of your course, you will receive your timetable. You will need to study all core units and a range of additional units.


    9 core units
    6 elective units, consisting of: at least 3 units from those units listed under Group A or B the remaining units from any of the Groups A, B or C below. Any combination of electives that meets the rules above can be selected for the award of the Certificate III in Individual Support.
