Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:
Safely interact and provide general care to animals
Assess animal welfare and provide animal first aid
Provide sanitary and hygiene grooming for companion animals, and domestic and crossbreed dogs
Groom dogs and companion animals according to breed to enhance their skin and coat
Communicate effectively with clients and team members
Promote positive wellbeing in the workplace

A nationally accredited qualification at Certificate III level
Credit toward a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or other relevant animal care qualifications
Specialist skills in grooming a variety of dogs and dog breeds
An understanding of different animal breeds and their distinct grooming requirements
Skills to liaise with clients and work in many areas of the pet grooming industry, such as vet clinics, your own business, etc.

Assessment conditions for Certificate III in Animal Care Services (Pet Grooming) require learners to have access to an animal care facility. For some delivery locations, this may occur on a TAFE NSW site. Please check your preferred campus location for campus-specific entry requirements.
During your study you’ll need to provide your teacher with the following evidence:
To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:
A passion for animals and their welfare
A patient and calm demeanour
A reasonable level of fitness to handle animals and carry out manual lifting
Access to a computer or personal device and an internet connection to complete home study
Appropriate clothing, which may include covered non-slip shoes, trousers and shirts for your classes. TAFE NSW will provide you with other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that is specific to animal care
Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) at a Year 10 high school level
TAFE NSW may ask you to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills test.
This skills test helps us to understand your individual study needs, to design an individualised plan that supports your study success and ensures your LLN skills match the demands of the course.

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Animal Care Services (Pet Grooming) qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 17 units of competency, including 7 core and 10 speciality units.
Please note, not all specialty units are offered at every TAFE NSW location. It is highly recommended that you check with your preferred campus for information about the specialty units offered at that location.
