Frequently asked questions
You will learn English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills for everyday living, for work, and for further study. You will also learn about Australian society, culture, customs, and working within Australia.
There are lots of AMEP study options. You can study at a TAFE NSW campus Monday to Friday during the day or evening, or in Saturday classes. TAFE NSW campuses also offer some online classes. You can also study by distance learning and/or with a volunteer tutor.
You can call us, or visit the AMEP office at a TAFE NSW location near you, to learn if you are eligible for the AMEP. Please bring your visa and passport with you.
You will need to attend an interview at one of our TAFE NSW locations so we can assess your English level and arrange a suitable learning plan. If you have arrived in Australia after 1 October 2020, you must register within six months of your visa commencement date or arrival in Australia.
We are able to arrange childcare to allow you to attend AMEP classes. Free childcare is available for children younger than school age.
Yes, TAFE NSW can arrange a study program to fit around your work schedule.
There are general English courses and courses to prepare you for work. The Pathways to Employment Program (PEP) courses have a vocational subject and work experience component. These courses can help you to work in aged care, hospitality, childcare, and other kinds of work.
